The 2017 countdown to summer has begun! The Kennebunks have had a taste of summer already with some of our Spring days having reached temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s! When we have a Spring like that, we know it is time to pull out the beach gear and dust off last year’s sand. At The Inn at English Meadows, that is exactly what we’ve done! Did you know that when you stay with us, all you need to pack is your swimsuit and your favorite sunscreen? We can supply you with beach chairs, beach towels, beach umbrellas, a beach parking pass and beach directions! All you have to do is decide which beach you want to explore and what form of transportation you will take.
B.E.A.C.H. – Best Escape Anyone Can Have.
We’ve got a few to choose from, which would you like to explore? To name some: Kennebunk Beach (there’s one in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport), Gooches Beach, Mother’s Beach and Parsons Beach. Not bad for a small coastal town! If you do not find that special seashell, starfish or sand dollar, don’t fret – step into one of our shops and find the perfect keepsake to remember your beach days with us.
Kennebunk and Kennebunkport have scooters, bicycles, and kayaks for rent and they are all within walking distance from our Inn. Scooters: Harbor Village Scooters, Coastal Maine Scooter. Bicycles and Kayaks: Coastal Maine Kayak
The Kennebunks are bike and foot friendly New England Seacoast towns. We are aware of the beauty that surrounds us and sometimes you miss taking it all in when breezing by in a car, so go ahead and take your time. Our historic homes, quaint boutiques, and shops, rocky and beach-laden shorelines await you!
Let’s get our summer clothes out, dig down and find those flip flops and plan your beach getaway with us at The Inn at English Meadows.

Maine’s “Restaurant Week” runs March 1st -12th. Take a bite out of one of the Kennebunk’s many fine restaurants. They will be offering 3+ course meals and special menus at discounted pricing for two. We suggest trying our neighbor “Toroso” who are proud participants of Maine’s restaurant week.
The moon is up, it’s getting chilly, come reside by our fire at The Inn at English Meadows, enjoy some spirits before you get your, well-deserved, long winters nap in one of our luxurious accommodations!
Everyone needs souvenirs from a great vacation! Either to remember how awesome it was, or to apologize to the people you didn’t want to invite.. Don’t even worry. Sarah and I went scouting for the best souvenirs in the Kennebunks, so you can get such amazing presents that you will end up keeping them for yourself!
The first and best place to start is the Inn, of course. They have all the luxuries from your stay available for purchase! Malin + Goetz soaps (don’t they just smell all kinds of amazing??), English Meadows coffee mugs and gorgeous hand-blown Italian drinking cups, Tea Forté tea bags and tea trays, the cute little tea pots, everything! These are the perfect things to bring home to remind you to relax and enjoy yourself, and to bring to people who don’t like trinkets!
The place to go for the cutest Mainey trinkets is Definitely the Daytrip Society. They have everything you will need to impress your friends with your thoughtfulness and generosity. Also, they have great sunglasses, and a Junior store for all the babies in your life who need to be spoiled.
Their card selection is straight up KILLER. You can buy them all and send them to your inlaws like, ‘oh darn, you would love it so much here, super sorry you couldn’t come. We’ll almost certainly remember to invite you next year probably.’
Next, we went to our favourite place for KENNEBUNK merch- Saxony Imports. It’s not as adorably curated as the Daytrip Society, but they do have really soft sweatshirts, cute hats, stickers, etc: Kennebunk souvenirs are their jam. Sarah got a great hat with a leather tab at the back, and will now be representing KPT in all of her paparazzi shots from now on.
After all of that shopping, it is definitely time to walk across the green bridge into Kennebunk to relax with a glass of something at Ports of Italy. You have earned it for SURE. Ask Mike the bartender for book recommendations- he’ll hook you right up!
That was so easy! What a success. Now you can go home with all of your beautiful trinkets and remember your favourite vacation!
Thanks for coming shopping with us, we hope to see you around the port this summer! We’re so excited to show you all of our favourite places around town, pretty soon you’ll be able to tour the town like a local! Don’t forget to book your room, cause we can’t wait to have you stay with us!
See you soon!

Kennebunkport Festival is a relatively new event, but it is one that was greeted with enthusiasm from the outset. It’s a time to celebrate good food, fine wine, and amazing art; a time to rendezvous with old friends and make new friends. In 2012, the Kennebunkport Festival takes place June 5-9. We encourage you to make your plans to stay at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast soon.
The festival is not located in one specific place. Events will be held in private homes, art galleries, restaurants, and public spaces overlooking the sea. We’re even hosting a couple of events here, at the Inn at English Meadows. This is very exciting.
Highlights of the 2012 Kennebunkport Festival include:
- Cocktails and Conversation, 5-7 p.m.
Mingle at One Dock on June 5th, the Old Fort Inn on June 6th, and Chicks Marina on June 7th.
- Art of Dining Dinners, June 5th and 6th, 7-10 p.m.
Intimate dinners held in private homes and prepared by Maine’s most respected chefs. Each course is paired with wine.
- Pop the Kennebunks, June 7th, 6-10 p.m.
Guests savor gourmet dishes, inspired wine, and live music.
- Maine Home+Design Dinner, June 8th, 7-10 p.m.
Join Home+Design Editor Rebecca Falzana and us (Eric and Liz) for an evening of conversation and excellent food at the Inn at English Meadows. Executive Chef Denis Francerschini of Bar Italia in New York City is creating a menu that is sure to make you sigh with delight.
Saturday, June 9th, will be a full day. There’ll be art viewing, live music, and lots of amazing wine, beer, and food served in lovely locations, including our Kennebunk Bed and Breakfast, Inn at English Meadows.
To see a complete list of events and purchase tickets, please visit Kennebunkport Festival. Let the festivities begin!
Last summer I got a call from a friend at River Tree Arts (www.rivertreearts.com) asking if it was possible for them to hold a Plein Air watercolor painting class at the English Meadows Inn. One call lead to another and soon several of the Historic Inns of Kennebunkport had agreed to host Plein Air classes in their respective gardens. The program expanded this year and we will host two Plein Air sessions this summer. The classes are taught by Judith Kinsman, a very highly regarded artist and teacher in New England (www.judithkinsman.com).
The classes run weekly all through July and August and usually have about a dozen artists attending. The skill level varies considerably but the work is outstanding. Its a real treat to see the Inn’s gardens captured in watercolor. The amazing thing to me is that in Plein Air watercolors, you really don’t get a second chance. You either capture what you’re trying to get at that moment or you don’t. The watercolors dry almost instantly in the air and the sun and there is little margin for error. I really admire the skill of the painters who get it right. Judith has a warm coaching sort of style and her class is fun and relaxing in a supportive and inspiring environment. The Arts have always been a big part of Kennebunkport’s style and cultural heritage. We have many excellent galleries, two notable Art Schools and there are always exhibits and shows on display. Ask us about what’s going on when you plan your trip to Kennebunkport.
