Kennebunk’s MaineStage Shakespeare theater company does their very most to breathe new life into the classics. Their performances are fresh, fun, and exciting – no matter whether you’re an authority on the Bard’s works or think “The Taming of the Shrew” might be an animal act. That doesn’t mean they’re a joke, however. The MaineStage Shakespeare players deliver innovative but thoroughly professional performances of these classic plays.
Further, MaineStage Shakespeare performances are FREE and performed out of doors, so grab your blanket or most comfortable lawn chairs, pack up that picnic basket and come enjoy the show!
The MaineStage Shakespeare 2015 Summer Season
Twelfth Night, or What You Will
July 10, 15, 17, 23, 25, 29, 31
August 6, 8, 12, 14, 20, 22
Castaway from a shipwreck, Viola must disguise herself as a boy to safely travel through the foreign country of Illyria. Soon she finds herself unwittingly embroiled in the unrequited courtship between Duke Orsino and Countess Olivia, whose own household is headed towards chaos via the demanding Malvolio. A wild web of mistaken identity and misplaced passion give make this comedy one of Shakespeare’s funniest and most bittersweet.
The Tragedy of Julius Caesar
July 11, 16, 18, 22, 24, 30
August 1, 5, 7, 13, 15, 19, 21, 22
Julius Caesar returns triumphant to Rome but envied and feared. Even Julius good friend, Brutus, is drawn into doubt as the fatal conspiracy grows. Finally he must come to a decision: loyalty to his friend, Caesar or to Rome? Compelling both in its tragedy and Shakespeare’s inimitable style, Julius Caesar remains instructive.
