Mr. & Mrs. Smith

July 4, 2013 by englishmeadows

Morning Dawn RoomIf someone mentions Mr. & Mrs. Smith, you may think of the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or perhaps your neighbors down the street, but savvy travelers know that Mr. & Mrs. Smith signifies a gateway to premier vacation destinations throughout the world. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith website takes you on a tour of the world’s most stylish and unique hotels, from New York to New Zealand, London to Los Angeles and everywhere in between, including Kennebunk Maine. The Inn at English Meadows is proud to announce that we are now part of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith collection.

Winner of Condé Nast Traveler’s 2012 “Favorite Travel Website” award, Mr. & Mrs. Smith hand-picks the best boutique hotels, luxury hotels and stylish vacation rentals to ensure you find the perfect spot for your getaway. Every boutique hotel in the Mr. & Mrs. Smith collection has been visited by the Smith team before being reviewed anonymously (and thoroughly) by a discriminating, travel-seasoned couple, who provide their own evocative first-person tale. Travelers can trust that at each Smith destination, vetted reviewers have personally tested the beds, surveyed the views and sampled the cuisine to make sure that each property really is best in class.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith is much more than just another travel website. Thanks to their exhaustive research, anonymous hotel reviews, and their dedicated 24-hour Travel Team that is just a phone call away, your special stay – whether romantic, family or anything else – is in safe hands. They guarantee the best room rates available and, because they give you a free BlackSmith membership when you first book with them, you’ll get money back and added extras, too.

You might wonder why they’re called Mr & Mrs Smith . . . In their own words: “Well, we’ve been around a lot longer than Brad and Angelina, though we have to admit we like their style. Really, it’s because we’re all about romantic escapes with your other half; a wink to couples everywhere, who might fancy checking into a fabulous hotel under this classic pseudonym used by everyone from spies to celebrities.”

So grab your other half and get the inside track on the most unique and stylish travel destinations out there, including The Inn at English Meadows. No secret spy identity necessary.

Maine Maycations and Scenic Cruises

April 7, 2012 by englishmeadows

Kennebunks Bed and Breakfast in the winter.

Bailey enjoying a romp in the snow.

Maine is lovely any time of year; we love the snow as much as we love the warm, summer evenings, and Bailey quite possibly prefers the snow. Yet there are some people, we know, who would never dream of traveling to a Maine Bed and Breakfast in the winter.

It is undeniable that some of Maine hibernates during the winter. But these days, signs of spring are everywhere. Restaurants are opening their shutters, shops are opening their doors, and boats are coming out of dry dock and making their way up the coast. Everyone is enjoying the fragrant combination of salt water and spring flowers that permeates the air.

Many guests of our Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast like to spend a few hours on a boat while they’re here. Scenic cruises are, after all, part of a quintessential Maine vacation. Happily, most boats open their decks to passengers in May.

Rugosa Lobster Tours, Kennebunkport

Picture yourself aboard the Rugosa this spring.

The Schooner Eleanor is a wonderful 55 ft sailing ship with four sails, a large teak cockpit, and a spacious, cushioned cabin. She sails up the coast daily from mid May to mid October.

Watch a classic New England wooden lobster work the Kennebunk River, or roll up your sleeves and lend a hand. Rugosa Lobster Tours opens for the season towards the end of May; the date varies depending on the weather.

Whale watching is another fun way to get out on the water. First Chance Whale Watch heads out to big waters in search of the great beasts. Finbacks, Humpbacks, Minkes, and even Blue Whales are frequently spotted during the 4.5 hour adventures. The first Whale Watch cruises depart over Memorial Day weekend.

We’re already looking ahead to the salad days of spring and summer at our Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast. We hope you are, too.

Make Your Stay in Kennebunk Special

February 8, 2012 by englishmeadows

Our English Goldendoodle, Bailey, is eager to tell readers about some of our Maine Bed and Breakfast lodging specials.

“I think every day at the Inn at English Meadows is special; I certainly have great fun from the moment I wake Eric and Liz until I tuck them in at night. But I guess people sometimes like a little something extra to make their time here even more special–kind of like treats. I can understand that; I like treats.

Four roses (Explore)

Indulge in the Valentine Indulgence Special at our Kennebunkport B&B.

Our Valentine Indulgence Special is sure to bring out the romantic in anyone. Roses, champagne, luxurious Frette robes, and a decadent homemade chocolate desert are added to a two night stay. I don’t know what this Valentine is, but it must be nice.

Is there a more perfect combination than a Manicure and Martinis? Her hands will be treated to a transformative experience. His hands will escort her to Old Vines, where martinis will be placed in both his and her hands. I wanted to get my nails done, but Liz and Eric just laughed at me.

Yoga has been practiced for thousands of years. It endures because it balances and restores those who practice it. I know all about it–I do “Downward Dog” first thing every morning. Choose our Exhale Package and enjoy a private 90 minute yoga session and two relaxing massages during your stay. Deepen your practice, or begin it here.

When it’s cold outside, our Winter Warm-Up Special feels just right. We’ll have a bottle of red or white wine waiting for you, and we’ll serve gourmet hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows and delicious, freshly baked cookies during your stay. To help you remember your cozy time in Kennebunkport, we’ll let you take home our signature Sferra throw. Wow!

Whether you’re pregnant for the first or the fifth time, you know what’s coming: an adorable baby, sleep deprivation and exhaustion. All of your energy and attention will be focused on the baby once he or she arrives. For now, focus on yourself. Spend two nights in one of the luxury guest rooms at our Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast, and allow yourself to be pampered and massaged. We call this our Bliss Before Baby Special. Eric and Liz wish they had treated themselves to this before getting me; I can’t imagine what they mean.

These are just some of the specials we offer at our Kennebunk/Kennebunkport inn; please see our Specials page for more. Treat yourself, because treats are nice.”
