the English Meadows"
The other reviews are
accurate! We just spent a night at the fabulous
English Meadows and can't say enough wonderful
things about our experience. The innkeeper Bruce
is simply fantastic. He created a simple little
agenda to help us get to experience Kennebunkport
in the short amount of time we had to spend. Our
room, "the Mayfair", was spacious and
comfortable. A delicious breakfast topped off our
memorable stay. We look forward to visiting again
in the summer and staying longer!

“Wonderful”
I hesitate a bit to write
this review simply because I want to keep this
wonderful find all to myself. My husband and I had
the pleasure of staying in the Carriage House Suite
for a short overnight in Kennebunkport. We know the
area well and like to try out different
accomedations. The suite was lovely, decorated with
rich floral fabrics and antique accesories. Quaint,
private, cozy but at the same time very spacious.
Because there were no other quests staying in the
carriage house, Bruce gave us the run of the place
and I took full advantage. While my husband was up
in the loft glued to the superbowl in front of a
warm gas stove, I was down in the commom room of the
carriage in front a rouring wood burning fireplace
getting quite toasty both from the fire and also the
complimentary port! Bruce could not have been more
garcious. The goumet breakfast was exquisite. My
search is over.
Thank you so much for sharing your home with us,
Mary and David

We stayed at the English
Meadows October 2007 for two nights as part of a
touring holiday throughout New England. We came
across the English Meadows by chance, but were
absolutely delighted by both the welcome and the
accomodation. Our host Bruce was very helpful in
suggesting itineries and local places to visit, and
happily answered any queries we had. The
accomodation was cosy and comfortable. Log fires in
the evening, a decanter of sherry in the bedroom and
excellent home cooked breakfasts all made for a
wonderfully relaxing stay. Our only regret was that
we were not able to stay for longer.

Wishing I was still there.
We arrived for tea and after a hurried journey full
of life's stresses , we were soon taken into another
time of quiet splendor, listening to classical music
sipping exotic teas on fine china overlooking the
quiet grounds.
The reservation for tea was worth every penny. It
started our weekend in the most serene fashion. This
was my 3rd time to Prelude, yet first time at The
English Meadows. I have never had such a wonderful
pampered experience. Valerie & Bruce Jackson,
born Innkeepers in every sense of the word are what
sets this place apart. Every detail and personal
attention made the difference & I have stayed at
several Inns in the area. In the other places, I
have never witnessed the 'joy' of doing what they do
and caring for their guests such as we experienced
at the E-Meadows.
We will definately be coming back & bringing
more new faces to this fabulous place of serenity
next visit to Kennebunkport. We want to see it in
spring or summer to take in the gardens in full
bloom.

If you are looking for the perfect marriage of
English refinement and American hospitality, this is
the bed and breakfast to choose. The innkeepers,
Bruce and Valerie Jackson, truly understand how to
treat their guests, from the initial warm welcome,
to the memorable breakfasts prepared and served with
great love and care, to the bedrooms appointed with
lovely linens and comforts. Clearly one of
Kennebunkport's jewels.

My husband and I spent one evening of our trip
at the English Meadows Inn B&B. This was
our first time to stay in a B&B, so I have
to admit that we were a little nervous. We
stayed in the Bloomsbury room for $215.00 a
night. It was a nice, quaint room with a queen
size bed and a decent sized bathroom. We
especially enjoyed the downstairs sitting room
with fireplace and house cat to keep us
company during the evening. :)
The breakfast served at the English Meadows
Inn was the best breakfast of our entire 5 day
trip; plus you don't have to sit at a
"community table" with all the other
guests. Bruce and his wife were excellent
hosts and served up a blueberry brundel that
was out of this world! They then followed that
with a baked peach with granola and yogurt,
and a four cheese quiche.
I have to say that their hospitality was
wonderful and they take a lot of pride in
their B&B and I would absolutely return
again!

My friend and I chose English Meadows Inn as
our 'home base' for a quick visit to Maine.
The Innkeeper, Bruce, provided not only a
fantastic breakfast each morning in the
beautiful tea room (Grand Marnier French
Toast, apple-cranberry compote, strata,
souffle, spiced apple muffins and more!), but
lots of great suggestions on things to see and
do in the area. His warm personality was an
added bonus to our stay. Our room was very
cozy, with down comforters on the beds that
were perfect for the chilly nights, and a
wood-burning fireplace just outside in the
main sitting area of the Carriage House. After
a day of adventure, it was so relaxing to come
back and sit before the fire with a small
glass of sherry and a good book or game of
Chinese Checkers (wish we knew the REAL
rules!). The Inn is just a short walk to lots
of shops and restaurants as well.

Inn is clean, comfortable and is impeccably
maintained with unique antique furnishings,
oriental rugs and a fireplace.
There is a quaint English Tea Room in the main
house which really made my wife happy. A happy
wife makes a happy husband! The scones and
other tea treats were homemade and delicious.
Much has been written about the Inn Keeper,
Bruce, and his incredible breakfast. A couple
of clues: wild blueberry/apple smoothie, apple
puff pancakes that did puff up and other
unique delights featuring apples grown on the
Inn's property.
Book a room in the main house, if available.
You both deserve it!
This is a fantastic Inn Experience that
exceeded our expectations.

Recently, during a trip through New England, I
had the pleasure of staying at a charming and
historic 1860's Bed and Breakfast called the
English Meadows Inn in Kennebunk, Maine. The
Inn was filled with antique furnishings,
Oriental carpeting and beautiful artwork in
each room. The sumptuous breakfasts were
served in a lovely little dining room where a
vast collection of tea pots from all over the
world was displayed. It was truly an English
"Country House" experience with a
warm, welcoming Innkeeper and staff ready to
anticipate the needs of every guest. A
highlight of the visit one afternoon, was
being served a proper English "Cream
Tea" which consisted of an extensive
assortment of teas and delicious sweet
pastries. Having "Tea" at the Savoy
in London could not have been any better! The
whole atmosphere was one of peaceful elegance.
An added bonus was the easy access to small
boutiques, art galleries and restaurants, all
within walking distance. I surely enjoyed
every minute of my stay at this delightful
Inn.

This is the fourth time my husband and I have
stayed at English Meadows Inn and it just keeps
getting better and better!! Innkeepers Bruce and
Valerie have the gift of hospitality and are
knowledgeable, warm , welcoming but not intrusive.
The rooms are tastefully decorated and immaculate!
The little extras are what make staying at English
Meadows different from other places. We had such a
wonderful stay and would highly recommend staying at
English Meadows to everyone. You will not be
disappointed!!! The breakfasts are included and they
are amazing-gourmet and delicious!! We have
recommended the Inn to our friends and family and we
cannot wait until we can return again!! Kudos to
Bruce and Valerie for their wonderful Inn!!!

We escaped the Nonantum Resort at over $300/day to
stay here, and all we wish is that we'd stayed here
the entire time! The hosts are so inviting and
honest. Rooms are kept with as many original,
authentic items as possible. Breakfast is always
meticulously served and delicious. This inn has
proved to be a memorable experience.

stayed at the English Meadows Inn and once again, it
was a great experience.
As usual, innkeeper extraordinaire Bruce Jackson
provided great hospitality and of course great
breakfasts. Looking forward to visit # 8 later
this year!

Our stay at English Meadows was not a 'planned'
vacation. Our trip to Kennebunk was a last minute
decision, so we were apprehnsive as to our
accommodations. We CERTAINLY did NOT have to worry!!
Beginning with my first email to Bruce, English
Meadows' charming innkeeper, I knew our experience
would be favorable. He was prompt and courteous, and
seemed genuinely excited to have us!
Upon our arrival we were shown to our room, Mayfair,
which is located in the main house. Bruce gave us
background on the Inn, and its restoration process,
which was enormous. He and Valerie certainly have
worked very diligently bringing the Inn to its
present condition.
What a wonderful experience being in Mayfair
was...from the 6 huge windows with lace curtains,
the port in the crystal decanter, to the beautiful
queen bed, the comfy winged back chairs. The
attention to detail is incredible throughtout the
Inn...immaculately clean and tastefully decorated.
We arranged for an 8:00 am breakfast, and at 7:15 am
delivered to our room was coffee and the Boston
Globe,
It would be impossible to accurately describe the
beautiful accents throughout, oriental rugs, English
bone china, exquisite period furniture.
Bruce was very helpful in recommending restaurants
and things to see and do in Kennebunkport, which we
thouroughly enjoyed, but the best meal we had during
our stay was our breakfast right at the Inn. Bruce
is an exceptional chef, and our meal was incredible,
served in their elegant, candle lit dining room.
As a travel agent, I look for many things in a
property, and I must say that our stay at the
English Meadow was a wonderful experience.
I highly recommend it to everyone!
Thank you Bruce and Valerie, hope to see you again!

We stumbled on English Meadows by asking the townies
for recommendations for the best place to stay -
they always know! Meeting Bruce, the owner and
innkeeper, was a delight. Not only was he a gracious
host and knowledgable about the area; his gourmet
breakfasts were amazing. We had a generous room and
bath at an affordable price. We will definitely be
returning to Kennebunkport and English Meadows will
always be our Maine Coast "home". We
highly recommend this cozy bed and breakfast for
your next Maine getaway

My wife and I stayed at the English Meadows Inn for
two nights. The service was outstanding to say the
least. Bruce, the owner and Inn Keeper was kind,
helpful and cooked the most incredible breakfasts!
What makes this inn special is the warm hospitality,
clean and well kept rooms, great location and
reasonable price.
Without hesitation, we would stay there again, its a
real gem!

My husband and I just returned from a weekend at the
English Meadows Inn in Kennebunkport. We had a
wonderful time. The inn is gorgeous, very nicely and
tastefully appointed (lovely art on the walls,
pretty lamps and furniture -- and kitschy bibelots
were, happily, absent). The inn's setting is lush
gardens -- away from the crowds but near enough to
walk to dinner. The proprietor, Bruce, is most
gracious and very service-oriented, recommending
restaurants, making reservations, directing us
toward area hikes and sites of interest. And last
but not least, breakfast was delicious, fresh and
different every day. I don't think we could have
felt more comfortable or welcome any place else and
very strongly recommend this B&B.

We have just returned from a lovely stay at
English meadows. This was our first time visiting
Maine, but it will certainly not be the last…
And English Meadows will be our home when we next
return. From the moment we made out reservation to
our departure, our stay was flawless: from helpful
suggestions for dinner reservations, to a lovely
room, to an afternoon of just chatting away with
the host, it was a wonderful experience all
around. Not a detail is overlooked by your hosts:
coffee outside your door beginning at 7 am, warm
towels, a nightcap in the evening, a wonderful
selection of reading at your fingers tips... To be
frank, my husband and I can be a bit finicky about
our travel arrangements, but I must say English
Meadows was quite a treat. Oh, and do yourself a
favor and wake up hungry…Bruce’s breakfasts
will delight!
