Dining in the Kennebunks

March 29th, 2012 by Gail

Kennebunkport B&B with gourmet breakfasts.

Our fresh twist on the breakfast sandwich.

A vacation without great food is but a shadow of a vacation. With this thought in mind, we strive to create the best possible breakfasts and treats at our Kennebunkport/Kennebunk Bed and Breakfast. We also spend a fair amount of time “scouting” local restaurants so we can recommend them to our guests. It’s a tough job, but….

Read on for a list of some of our favorite restaurants. This list is not exhaustive, but it will give you a good idea of where to start when you’re hungry in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport Maine.

  • 50 Local. If you happen to be at our Kennebunk Bed and Breakfast during the week, don’t miss their Tuesday $2 Tapas.
Maine lobster rolls

The incomparable Maine lobster roll. Is there anything better?

  • Cape Arundel Inn. All of the food is wonderful, but the Prime Rib is impossible to resist.
  • Ryan’s Corner Bar. When you’re having a pint at Ryan’s, it feels like you’ve been transported to Ireland.
  • The Clam Shack. We dream of summer lobster rolls from the Clam Shack.

Bring your appetite when you come to the Inn at English Meadows, and explore the many restaurants of the Kennebunks.

Another amazing creation by Liz: coconut macaroons dipped in dark chocolate.

Scenic Spots in Kennebunk

March 9th, 2012 by Gail

Now that Bailey is a member of the family, we spend more and more of our free time exploring our surroundings on foot. Daily walks lead us to secluded beaches, wooded trails, and down quiet lanes in historic Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. For Bailey, each walk is a joyous occasion; there are always interesting scents and sounds, and of course friends to greet. It’s been great fun to see our community through the eyes of a dog.

One of our favorite spots to walk is Parson’s Beach*, which is only a few miles from our Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast. Bailey is particularly fond of it, because he loves to dig and play tag with the surf. Here he is, inviting us to romp with him.

Another one of Bailey’s favorite spots is the Rachel Carson Trail, in the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge. It, too, is just a few miles from our Kennebunk Bed and Breakfast; in fact, it’s close to Parson’s Beach. The flat trail meanders through woods and over wooden bridges through a salt marsh. It is a lovely, peaceful spot.

Both Parson’s Beach and the Rachel Carlson Trail are within biking distance of the Inn at English Meadows. This is good news, since there is limited parking at Parson’s Beach.

* Parson’s Beach is privately owned; please follow the posted rules and be respectful of the environment while there.
